This is the kitchen I designed in Chicago. A 21 x 24 feet room, with, clockwise from 9 o’ clock, a low working counter, usually used for mail, computer with recipes, and such, space for a 4′ fridge (we didn’t put in until we put it up for sale as the pantry had plenty), an appliance counter, a door to the panry, an 8 foot stove, all professional Gaggenau units, 3 wok burners, a double burner, a built-in three zone deep fat fryer, and a grill, a second door to the pantry, the coffee station, the cafe, a small table with two chairs overlooking the sunken 12 x 18 all glass sunroom, stairs to the sunroom, the first door to the living room, the lower baking counter, the awesome 36″ Gaggenau oven, the second door to the living room. In the center, a 13 x 4 island, the end of it an 8″ thick, end maple, 4′ square chopping block, then two large working sinks back to back in a 9×4 slab of granite. The cabinets all birch, the granite Black Galaxy, the floors #2 maple, random mixed.

The pantry was 6 x 21, with a wall of pull out shelving, across from the wall of shelving, with one end a prep counter and deep laundry sink.

The backsplash was tile, handpainted with herbs by my mother.

And, for a special trick, the two hoods, each 2400 cfm externally vented, raised and lowered by 8″ and were mounted in the up position at the minimum legal distance to the stove cooking surface.
